Maternity sessions are some of my most favorite sessions to shoot and edit. I love capturing the romantic feeling of excitement and connectedness between parents to be, all the love and affection they share, be it their first born or if a sibling or two are involved; the essence of quiet yet eager expectation that shines through a pregnant woman. I strive to shoot and edit my maternity sessions to give them that etherial and airy feel that leaves the viewer refreshed and rested. Most of my maternity sessions are light and bright with a bit of film grain and muted greens.
This particular maternity session took place in Atlanta, where I met the couple at Garrard Landing Park, which was a perfect back drop for the kind of session I had in mind. This mama is one of the prettiest people I have ever met, and also very natural in front of the camera. I love when that happens ha! Both mom and dad are gorgeous, total babes. Our setting along with the light (late afternoon but not the golden hour light) and the wardrobe made this my dream session.
I recently started to really enjoy shooting at earlier times and even in full sun at times, because it works so well with my editing. This session was shot between 5:00 and 6:30pm mostly in open shade areas. Mama wore her own white Lulus dress first, then slipped into my lace kimono for the tall grass shots. I also love the images on the rock ledge over the water, that is such a unique spot, totally man made but so totally cool. I shot this session with my Nikon d7100 and a Sigma art 35mm 1.4 lens.
Reliving this session again, as I type out this story, makes me love it even more. Oh, and their baby was just born, and he is gorgeous. Pure perfection. Can’t wait to meet him.
